About T-AIM

Telangana AI Mission (T-AIM), powered by NASSCOM, was established in 2020 by the Government of Telangana with a vision to position Telangana as a global hub for Artificial Intelligence and foster social innovation. To encourage innovation within the AI community, Telangana ITE&C Department's Emerging Technologies Wing and T-AIM actively conduct various initiatives throughout the year.

Objective of the challenge

To foster the entrepreneurial spirit amongst the students, T-AIM is collaborating with Capgemini to seek applications for Academic Grand Challenge.

In this challenge, student teams from colleges across India are expected to build solutions to predict heat wave occurrences and Air Quality Index (AQI) for Tier-2 cities of Telangana.

Seed fund of ₹10 lakhs will be awarded to the top 10 student teams
Grand Prize

A total sum of ₹5,00,000 will be awarded.

2nd Prize

A total sum of ₹2,50,000 will be awarded

3rd Prize

A total sum of ₹1,00,000 will be awarded

Top 10

All members of the top 10 teams will get an opportunity to interact with leaders from Capgemini and other enablers from the startup ecosystem

Use Case
Predicting Weather Events

Climate change is making heatwaves more intense. The 2022 heat wave in India and Pakistan was an extreme weather event that resulted in the hottest March in India since 1901. The hot, dry weather continued into April, impacting 70 percent of India by the end of that month. Further, the total heatwave days in 2022 are over 5 times more than the previous year's. A study by an international team of scientists from World Weather Attribution suggested that climate crisis made this extreme weather event around 30 times more likely.

As climate change warms this century, wildfires, stubble burning, and the associated air pollution are also expected to rise even in a low-emissions scenario. 99% of the entire world population breathes air that exceeds air quality limits prescribed by the World Health Organization (WHO), and this threatens their health. Of 10 most polluted cities in Asia, 8 are from India as per data released by World Air Quality Index in November 2022.

Desired Outcome

Help the government authorities and citizens by building an AI/ML model that predicts the occurrences of heat waves and the Air Quality Index (AQI) for Adilabad, Nizamabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, and Khammam. The prediction frequency must be monthly for January-December 2023.

Eligibility Criteria
How to Participate?
Results and Winning Criteria
  • Round 2: A select number of teams will be given the opportunity to submit Approach Notes that describe the plan to design and develop a solution to achieve the Desired Outcome. Teams will be given five (5) days to submit Approach Notes.
  • Round 3: A smaller number of teams will be invited to develop a Proof of Concept (PoC). Teams will be given thirty (30) days to submit PoC.
  • Round 4: Five (5) teams will be invited to present their PoC to the Grand Jury
  • The winning criteria will be a combination of qualitative and qualitative methods to solve the problem
  • The decision of the jury will be final and binding
Ranking Criteria (Parameters and Weightage)

The Solution will be judged based on the responses to each Key Deliverable mentioned below:

  • Approach
  • Technical
  • Results
  • This consists of a description of how the problem statement was approached, assumptions made, understanding of problem statement, and the manner of use of data and algorithms.
  • Weightage: 40%
  • This consists of code quality, use of data, scalability of the solution, documentation (in-line and manual), the use of standard libraries, and algorithms used.
  • Weightage: 40%
  • This consists of accuracy of the solution.
